Yes & Everything at the Rockwell

Y’ALLLLL WE’RE TAKING Y&E ON THE ROAD!!!

For April ONLY we’re packing up the cigarette girls and the moon and maybe a rug or two and huffing it down Highland Ave to our sister theater, to heart of Davis Square, run by the indefatigable Deby Xiadini, you guessed it the motherfucking Rockwell!!!

Honestly I was nervous about this. Like what if the the magic we found the past shows is tied to the space? But after pulling the trigger I’m immediately like fuck that I’m now SO stoked to bring our energy on the road! Like how cool?! And let me tell you this place is absolutely STACKED! Theater lights, full bar, bluetooth mics, y’alll who KNOWS what we’re gonna cook up!? This is a damn page in our scrapbook WHICH Y’ALL ARE A PART OF

Now I know we had to turn a lot of people away last time and I’m sorry BUT THIS IS YOUR TIME. The Rockwell seats 200, and I expect to see 200 BEAUTIFUL SHINING FACES NOT 199, 200, APRIL 3 TICKETS ARE LIVE SIGNUPS ARE LIVE IT’S ALL LIVE I CAN’T WAIT LETS GOOOO

Historical Portraiture w/ Cas

And we’re BACK baby! Cas @smollfigure, our emcee extraordinaire, history buff, actor, friend, and host of the now monthly historical portraiture session, is keeping things fresh and throwing a BANGER this month. Model this month? @lil_kokiburi!!!

Each month has been a different theme that is designed with the help of the model/historical interpreter and often the costumes are MADE by the people modeling them! Cas provides way more legit content than I do; they talk about the time period, highlight details about what you’re drawing, and they’re funny as hell. There’s a backdrop, the music matches the theme... I swear y’all this program is elevated. Anyway! Come through

Dorian Wood: Live Music & Figure Drawing

Life Drawing Boston presents KILL THE COLONIZER IN YOU THAT YOU MISTAKE FOR A SOUL, a queer-centered ritual/drawing session in two parts created by anti-disciplinary artist Dorian Wood. Through ancestral vocalizations and body movement, Wood invites spectators to render what they witness, or to engage by simply being present. Says Wood: "I am interested in infecting the space with my fatness, with my brownness, with my overall individuality, as a way of connecting with others to collaboratively explore ways in which we dismantle systems that contribute to the marginalization of people."

Los Angeles Times says Dorian Wood "delivers vocals that offer sublime beauty and pain." Born and raised in L.A. to Costa Rican-Nicaraguan parents, and now a resident of Watertown, Wood's work has been presented in concert halls and cultural institutions around the world. She is a recipient of several awards including a Creative Capital Award, a MacDowell Fellowship, an FCA Grant for Artists Award and a NALAC Fund for the Arts Award. In 2023, Wood premiered Canto de Todes, a touring 12-hour chamber music composition and installation that emphasizes the urgency of folk music as a conduit for social change. In 2024, Wood toured her piano-and-voice interpretation of Sinéad O'Connor's album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, honoring the late artist on the anniversary of her passing. Wood has released over a dozen recordings, most recently the albums You are clearly in perversion (2023, Astral Editions), in collaboration with Thor Harris; and Excesiva (Dragon's Eye Recordings, 2023).

Historic Portraiture at the Loov

Are you tired of drawing naked people? Want to feel like an old portrait artist painting in a smokey French salon?*

Historic Portraiture is your chance to work from a live historic interpreter modeling an exquisite, historically accurate 18th century gown. Campy, historic, and bourgeoisie all in one night.

First, you'll get a look at the undergarments and structure of 18th century clothing by doing warm up sketches with short poses in undergarments. We'll talk fashion and underwear history, so chic.

Then, watch how an 18th century Lady would get dressed in her best gown and draw or paint a 1hr long seated pose.

ALL Styles welcome; Media of choice, painting encouraged! Fancy snacks and supplies provided, BYOB (Bev and Berets)
